Cholesterol Studies, Can Green Tea Help?

Green tea has a great many associated health benefits. It is one of the most simple health
foods you can add to your diet and can be enjoyed often. What many people do not realise is that green tea is very
effective at lowering cholesterol levels, which is now being demonstrated through cholesterol study after
study.
There has been a great deal of research done to show the benefits of green tea and its inclusion into the diet.
Recent research shows that green tea can also have a very positive effect on helping the body to lower cholesterol.
This means that the sufferer of high cholesterol or indeed anyone can now enjoy a cup of green tea and lower
cholesterol levels.
Green tea cannot be beaten for a simple, natural, drug free way of lowering cholesterol levels and it is
becoming a daily ritual for many people. Doctors and nutritionists are now beginning to suggest green tea as an
alternative to conventional treatments as an aid to lower cholesterol.
Cholesterol studies have shown green tea to be not only instrumental in lowering levels of LDL or “bad”
cholesterol but that it also has a great effect on raising the levels of HDL or “good” cholesterol in the
bloodstream.
More recent cholesterol studies conducted on animals have shown that the polyphenols found in green
tea may go as far as preventing the body adsorbing cholesterol. This recent research also provided evidence to show
that green tea polyphenols helps the body to excrete excess cholesterol from the body. This is how people who drink
green tea generally have lower cholesterol levels than that of a person with the same diet who does not. If you
needed a reason to drink green tea as part of your daily routine then I can not think of a better one.
Green tea has also been found to contain several very powerful antioxidants in the form of epicatechins, these
are extremely powerful antioxidants that work to significantly lower high blood pressures and the symptoms thereof.
It is also believed that green tea works to help prevent cancer although this has not been conclusively proven.
There has been a recent batch of cholesterol studies but one of particular note was performed on a group of men
who were smokers. The study revealed that the men who were given green tea daily had much lower levels of LDL
cholesterol in the bloodstream. The epicatechins that are present in green tea had reduced the levels of LDL
cholesterol by almost a half.
The western world is only just realising what people in the eastern worlds have known for centuries, the fact
that green tea can cure many ailments and reduce the symptoms of many more has been demonstrated by a large amount
of research.
